Illumination of Chaudière Falls

A free light and sound show that illuminates the falls and share Indigenous culture.

The name Mìwàte translates to “dazzled by a light or fire” in Anishinaabe, the language of the Algonquin people.

We visited the light show with Nathan and Tanya who had only arrived from Australia on Wednesday.

Wakefield - Parc Omega

We did a bit more exploring and ventured to Wakefield a picturesque village on the Gatineau River in the Gatineau Hills.

It is on the Quebec side of the river but is predominantly English-speaking.

We had lunch at The Black Sheep Inn (Le Mouton Noir), it has become well known for top quality musical entertainment.

It was then onto Parc Omega a drive of about 75 minutes from Wakefield.

Parc Omega is a safari park in Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours, Quebec,(just north of Montebello). Along a 12-kilometre (7.5 mi) nature route are lakes, meadows, small valleys, forests, and rocky hills. It is home to many wildlife species including beaverelkraccoontimber wolfcoyotemuskoxdeerturtleboarred foxAlpine ibexcariboublack bearmoosewild turkey, and bison. During the summer there are shows featuring birds of prey especially bald eagles. The site also has a restaurant with a panoramic view. The park is open daily, year round.

The park is a drive-through experience, meaning visitors stay in their cars and drive through the park on a winding trail. They also offer three walking trails, playgrounds and picnic areas.
The park runs two low-power FM radios stations that provide guidance and direction, in English and French. The complete experience takes about two to three hours.
